HERE'S WHAT YOU MISSED AT SASSY 009 (Original Page)
Sassy 009 gets Roskilde dancing again with a hypnotic performance backed by their signature lo-fi projections.
Sassy 009 (double-O-9) is the trio of girls from Norway that everyone is talking about. Some people claim to have met one (or all) of them, others are falling in love with them through their artistic lo-fi music videos that are fearlessly changing the way the music industry sees female artists in the best way possible. Simply put, we’ve figured out that it’s cool to know who they are. (And we totally know who they are.)
When Sassy 009’s 80’s VCR projections lit up the Countdown stage on Sunday night, their footage of forests, oceans and face-paint attracted crowds from afar and truly calmed them down after Saturday night’s wild intro parties. Live flute, keyboard and electronic beats had audiences swaying, dancing, singing, and smiling, putting the crowd under their spell that sent chills down spines. Our very own Elke Numeyer- Windshuttle joined the audience to capture the girls doing their magic, a performance that will certainly be whispered about for the week to come.
HERE'S WHAT YOU MISSED AT EMINEM
Eminem opened concert week last night with the biggest party of Roskilde Festival ’18 so far.
There wasn’t a great deal of conversation about Eminem during Roskilde Festival’s warm-up days. If they were going to attend the concert, fans played down their enthusiasm. But things made more sense last night when everyone arrived early to the Orange Stage (90 minutes in most cases), to line up for the biggest party at the festival yet.
In true Eminem style, The Real Slim Shady (Marshall Mathers |||) greeted his fans with a short film in which he featured as a Godzilla-like giant destroying New York City and burning it to flames. Fireworks, flame projections, rain effects and smoke enhanced the drama of it all, getting the audience ready to lose control, and their voices.
If you didn’t get knocked out by some dude’s armpit, you could just make out Eminem’s familiar frame, as he rapped alongside a full band with violins, guitars, and cellos. His supporting rappers encouraged the usual alcohol and drugs thing, asking repeatedly if the crowd was f**ked up, claiming to be from the era in which you could “still party” before playing some of the biggest hits from the 2000’s including My Name Is, Lose Control and Without Me.
Photographer Elke Numeyer-Windshuttle jumped along in the pit, capturing glimpses of one of the highest selling rappers of the 2000’s.
RUDE BOY SHUT UP! STORMZY @ RF '18
After a long hiatus, moshing has officially returned to Roskilde Festival.
We saw some really crazy shit last night. Thursday delivered a night of wild energy fuelled by defiance against over-exhaustion that kept the camping areas empty until well after the sun rose. It probably had something to do with the high-energy lineup of techno, drum and base, and fast rap music kicked off by Stormzy whose concert re-introduced moshing to Roskilde after a long hiatus.
It wasn’t long into the gig that Stormzy referred to the audience as the ‘energycrew’. The crowd clapped, cheered and screamed well before he entered the stage and things only got more intense after he surfaced.
Elke Numeyer-Windshuttle managed to keep a camera in her hands during the enormous run-ins, capturing bits and pieces of the action (and attempted escapes) during the concert.
Stormzy truly knows how to put on a party. You guys are nuts.
WATCHING THE WORLD CUP AT ROSKILDE '18
If you hadn't heard already, we lost.
If things seemed pretty quiet around Roskilde on Sunday, you were obviously in the wrong place at the wrong time. If you thought it your original idea to go and watch Denmark play Croatia at the festival, you were fooled, fool!
When our photographer Elke Numeyer-Windshuttle arrived at the scene of Denmark’s football match with Croatia, festival-goers had turned into a sea of red and white flags, everyone trying to find space between tents to stand, jump, scream, and eventually cry.
What began as one of the highest intensity matches of the year, resulted in a disappointing slow-motion exodus of defeat. Luckily we had Denmark’s spectacular 11pm sunset to guide us back to camp, with our tails between our legs.
HERE'S WHAT YOU MISSED AT EMIL KRUSE - ROSKILDE '18
If you couldn't make it to see the 23 year-old charm the crowds with his rap-meets-melody magic on Sunday, here's what you missed.
If the 27 degree heat didn’t wake camps up from their Saturday night debauchery, local rising hip hop star Emil Kruse certainly did.
The largest warm-up concert this year had Danes screaming every lyric and internationals jumping and humming with excitement as Emil G’d the audience up with his lyrical magic and fresh energy.
Our girl Elke Numeyer-Windshuttle arrived right in the heat of it all to capture tan lines, kisses, screams and Roskilde’s unique warm-up fuzz.
NO CLOTHES, NO WORRIES - ROSKILDE '18
To hell with tan lines!
The naked run isn’t the only place to see human anatomy this year at Roskilde. With temperatures exceeding 27 degrees Celsius on most days, waking up in a steamy tent becomes a slow stripping procedure, as campers crawl out of their tents like new-borns delivered in the Danish dessert.
Anything goes at Roskilde Festival, and after years of being cling-wrapped in raincoats and gumboots, we're happy to see you run free.
GREY AND GREAT - VETERAN SPOTTING AT ROSKILDE '18
By day eight, we can totally separate the rookies from the experts at Roskilde Festival.
There is much to learn from people like these. They are suave, cool and sophisticated. They’re well slept and calm, and they are stylish. On day 8 at Roskilde festival, we’re pretty sure you don’t feel as great as the experts we met this week, because they have 10 – 20 years experience here that you don’t. And we can tell.
Wearing their smile-lines and silver hair (or dreads) with pride, these cool cats are the ones you want to be around, and they will likely have an impressive story or two to tell you from decades past at the festival.
THE BEST AND WORST OUTFITS AT ROSKILDE FESTIVAL 2018
While some of you belong on the runways of New York, others should re-evaluate their wardrobe choices.
It takes many types to fill a camping ground. And there’s always people who stand out, for good or bad reasons.
On our sleepless journey through campsites and concerts, we saw you guys and took notice of your style. Someone, somewhere out there influenced all of you to wear leopard print , but we also found some cool, quirky, and just plain weird things going on this year. We’re not really sure how to feel about it. But it worked.
